The SmartSCAN-NG Model 2300 is a full-featured wayside defect detection and reporting system by Southern Technologies Corporation (STC), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. The 2300-502 is the central Controller and System Interface Module — the processing brain of the entire system. It houses a dual-CPU Processor Board and manages all communications with trackside sensors including hot bearing detectors, wheel scanners, dragging equipment detectors, and high/wide load detectors. Over 1,000 SmartSCAN-NG systems are in service on Class I and heavy-haul railroads worldwide.
